Asbury Trails - BluffAt the Palisades Farm

The winding Kentucky River cuts a 400 foot deep gorge through the limestone of the Bluegrass region around Wilmore, KY. Towering cliffs line the outside of riverbends; bluffs and narrow landings line the inside of the bends. The palisades are well known for their scenic beauty and are home to a number of endangered species.

Old Stage Road TrailThe Palisades Farm (also home to the Asbury Equine program) has approximately a mile of cliffs along the river and a ravine which leads down to the river and provides access. There are over two miles of hiking trails available to students and the public.

One trail follows an old pioneer road that leads to the landing. Originally the road crossed a ford in the river and continued on to Danville, KY. In addition to historic sites, there are a variety of geologic and ecological features along the trails. Trail maps and a self-guided hike brochure are available at the trailhead.

To reach the Farm, go south out of Wilmore on highway 29 towards High Bridge. Turn right on Shanty Hill Lane, 0.4 miles south of the Lowry Lane stop sign. Go 0.7 miles on Shanty Hill Lane. The Farm gate is at a sharp bend in the road. Park inside the gate. The gate is closed and locked at 8:00 PM daily (sunset from October to March)!
