Alisha Childers
As a lifelong church-goer, follower of Jesus, and former CCM recording artist with the Dove award-winning group ZOEgirl, I experienced a period of profound doubt about my faith in my mid-thirties. I felt as though I had been tossed in a stormy ocean of uncertainty with no life jacket or lifeboat in sight. I didn’t know where to find answers to my questions, or if answers existed at all. Did I have to accept it all on some kind of blind faith? I began to investigate my faith intellectually—I took seminary classes and read everything I could get my hands on. This began my journey from unreasoned doubt into a vibrant, rational, and informed faith.
Scott Klusendorf
Scott Klusendorf travels throughout the United States and Canada training pro-life advocates to persuasively defend their views in the public square. He contends that the prolife message can compete in the marketplace of ideas if properly understood and properly articulated.
A passionate and engaging speaker, Scott has appeared on nationally syndicated Christian programs and secular talk shows including Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on the Family, The Albert Mohler Radio Program, Lee Strobel’s Faith Under Fire, Hank Hanegraaff’s The Bible Answer Man, Dr. D. James Kennedy’s Truths That Transform, KABC out of Los Angeles, the Lesley Primeau Show, and The Gregg Knapp Experience.
Scott has debated or lectured to student groups at over 80 colleges and universities, including Stanford, USC, UCLA, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley. Each year thousands of students at Protestant and Catholic high schools are trained by Scott to make a persuasive case for life as part of their worldview training prior to college.
Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship, said: “Scott first grabbed my attention when Focus on the Family featured one of his presentations on its national broadcast. I was struck by his ability to communicate truth so clearly and insightfully. I’ve heard many speakers who deliver excellent content, but few who can actually equip people to communicate their pro-life convictions to a secular culture. In fact, I was so impressed with Scott’s talk that I phoned him directly to learn more about his work. After that, I scheduled him as a keynote speaker for our own Breakpoint conference.”
Scott is a graduate of UCLA with honors and holds a Masters Degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University.
Alycia Wood
As a child growing up in the church, Alycia always had questions. She wanted to dig deeper into the Christian faith beyond the Sunday morning sermon. That fueled an independent search which led to her digging into the larger questions of life. While studying for a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology at Robert Wesleyan College, Alycia discovered Apologetics. It changed the course of her life. Her quest for a deeper understanding of her Christianity had a name.
She went on to get her Master’s in Social Justice from Marygrove College to further her passion for serving those in need in the developing world. This led to various volunteering opportunities at orphanages, prisons, and shelters for the homeless in various countries including Haiti, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. A few years after her travels were completed, she was able to spend a year studying Apologetics in England.
Alycia spent many years as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher for all grade levels. Before joining Apologetics, Inc., she spent 8 years as an Apologist with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. She has now spent over ten years doing full-time apologetics ministry where she travels and speaks on various topics relevant to our culture.
In her spare time, she is an avid sports fan, musician and grower of all things edible in her garden.
In addition to speaking, you can find Alycia on her podcast, Hey Alycia!, available on Apple, Spotify, and apologetics.org.
We want your SummitCamp experience to be a positive one, so here’s how you can prepare.
Let’s talk clothing: Think “everyday wear” – jeans, shorts, etc. You should bring a swimsuit (one-piece for girls), as well as clothes that can get dirty (river shoes, shorts, etc.). There’ll be time for sports, so bring athletic shoes. Here are some guidelines as you pack:
You’ll be staying in one of Asbury’s residence halls, but you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag or bed linens and pillow. You’ll also need to provide your own towels and personal toiletry items. (Your campmates will appreciate you taking a shower at least once.)
And one more thing: You’ll want to take notes and jot down ideas, so make sure to include a Bible, notebook & pens.
