Scholarship Competition is an invitation-only event for our distinguished academic students who qualify to compete for our top merit scholarships. In addition to competing for scholarships, students will have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the academic, spiritual and social life at Asbury while connecting with future classmates and professors.

Resumé, Essay and Presentation Requirements
Students will be required to submit a resumé and essay to be used as a platform for the presentation portion of the event. This presentation will be given in a private room on campus and will include two Asbury University Facilitators and two fellow competitors. The resumé and essay should be prepared in advance of the competition and submitted via the online portal at least three days prior to the interview. Please read the requirements for each item below.

This is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself to your staff facilitators and peers. Using your resumé and essay as a foundation for this discussion, please present this information as a personal introduction.
Students are invited to stay on campus and get the real college experience in one of Asbury’s residence halls. Please note that if you choose to stay overnight on campus, you may be sleeping on the floor in the room of a current student. Please be prepared and pack a sleeping bag, a pillow, business professional attire for the interview, and anything else you may need to add comfort to your stay. Parents and other guests are encouraged to stay at a local hotel or bed & breakfast, some of which offer a special rate for Asbury guests.

Students will have the opportunity to receive one of two John Wesley Hughes Scholarships (equal to 100% of tuition) or one of 30 Henry Clay Morrison Scholarships (equal to $5,000 annually). All scholarship competitors who do not receive the Hughes or Morrison scholarships will automatically receive a $2,000 yearly scholarship, totaling $8,000 over four years, for attending the event. The Hughes Scholarships will replace the merit scholarship previously awarded, and the $5,000 Morrison Scholarship can be added to the student’s merit scholarship.
In reviewing your resumé and essay, we will take into consideration presentation, participation, and awards and/or recognitions. Scholarships will be determined using the criteria below:
Scholarships will be announced no later than the end of February. All participants will receive a phone call regarding the decision made.

Dress code for the Academic Reception on Thursday night is business casual. Please note that the dress code on Friday is business professional.
