All sociology students work closely with faculty advisors who not only coach them in their academic progress, but also provide relational mentoring along the way.
At Asbury, the study of sociology also compels attention to the needs of the world beyond ourselves. Our program illuminates the structural and cultural significance of everyday realities like food, fashion, and friendships, always with an eye to the pursuit of strong families, empowering communities, peaceful societies, and the common good.

Our core curriculum introduces the rich tradition of sociological inquiry. These are taught by faculty with terminal degrees from high-ranking institutions who pursue active research agendas. These courses are designed to help students develop robust analytical, technical, and communication skills.
Sociology students also choose from a flexible set of pathways and electives that can include courses in other fields such as communication, social work, ministry, and philosophy. Each student works closely with a faculty mentor to chart an academic course that fits their interests and vocational goals, including research projects or internships. Others take advantage of study-abroad and off-campus learning experiences.
