The upcoming year offers one of our most exciting lineups of study abroad opportunities yet. Students will have the chance to:

Foundations in Italy

This travel course takes an interdisciplinary approach, utilizing shared texts by Michelangelo, GK Chesterton, and Petrarch to examine the relationship between Italian literary art and the Christian life. The journey will include Rome, Assisi, and Florence with stops specifically at the Coliseum and Forum, the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Basilica of Saint Francis, Casa Buonarroti, Santa Croce, and more.

  • 3.0-6.0 Credit Hours: TH 250 – Foundations of Christian Thought (3 credits) and/or ENG 205– Literature and Culture (3 credits)

Mandarin Chinese in China

This program is designed for students from Asbury University to engage in Chinese language learning and cultural immersion through a series of courses and workshops. It is eligible for both The curriculum consists of two major components: the “Chinese + Museum” site/tour visits and cultural practice activities at a specific university. Students will see sites such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China in Beijing and Big Wild Goose Pagoda and reconstructed Tang dynasty marketplaces in Xi’an. Then, they will have the opportunity to practice Tai Chi, paint Peking Opera masks, and participate in several tea ceremonies.

New Testament and Intercultural Studies in Türkiye

By walking in the footsteps of Paul and other early Christians, students will encounter firsthand how the early church interacted with ancient Mediterranean culture. Seeing the influence of paganism, the power of the imperial cult, the display of ancient wealth, and the routines of daily life will give students a library of vivid memories that will continue to inform their understanding of the New Testament for years to come. Stops will include modern Izmir (Smyrna), Miletus, Ephesus, Thyatira, and more.

Holocaust Studies Tour: A Social Science Perspective

As an integrative enrichment experience, this course will examine the relationship between the ideas, imagery, and personalities found within the social and life sciences with the concept of inherent human dignity. Focus will be placed on the historical conflict found in the eugenics movement and culminating in the atrocities committed in Europe during WWII during the Holocaust. Additionally, more contemporary issues will also be discussed.

Cross-Cultural Experience in Greece

Partnering with Global Next, we will visit sites of historical, cultural, and political significance in Athens, Corinth, and Delphi (Greece). Paired with a leadership conference style, students will be pushed out of their comfort zones and asked to interview locals in the midst of their travels on topics related to the content. Join us for this exciting, immersive experience.

Scotland and the Art of Story

Explore Scottish history through the power of story, song, and art. Stops will include Stirling Castle, Arthur’s Seat, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Biogeography of the Galápagos Islands

This course will introduce you to the ecology, physiology, and behavior of organisms in the unique environments of the Galápagos Islands. Students also discuss the history of the Galápagos, how the islands have changed the world, and how humans have impacted the islands. Stops include San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, and Isabela islands, and activities include hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, biking, and visiting museums.

Business In Jamaica

Every student participant will be placed in a local business in Kingston, Jamaica, where they will complete two full 40-hour work weeks in a department of their choice (accounting, business management, administration, etc.). Participants should come ready to shadow, ask questions, and willing to do any small projects as assigned by their supervisors. Weekends will be reserved for tourism with a visits to local beaches as a relaxing way to recover from the work week.

Medical Missions in Honduras

Partner with Global Health Outreach (GHO) and Iglesia Bautista Emanuel in Siguatepeque, Honduras to provide primary medical and dental care to locals. Students will shadow medical leadership both from the States and Honduras as they use their training to provide free healthcare and kindness to people experiencing health challenges.

Civil Rights Tour of the South

Examine the background of non-violent methods of protest during the Civil Rights Movement in the United States while journeying to major sites relevant to the movement throughout the South. Stops will include Memphis (TN), Birmingham and Montgomery (Alabama), and Atlanta (Georgia). In the middle of trip, we will have a home base with Asbury alumni who live in Selma, Alabama, another key location in the Civil Rights Movement. They will allow the team to shadow them as they participate in community development efforts in the town.

Studying abroad was the best way for me to be challenged as a person and a Christian. Leaving the comforts of my home country to go to a place I had never been before challenged me to not just immerse myself into the culture, but also to trust God that he would be with me through something I have never done before.
