Aldersgate Commons

Aldersgate’s name is an homage to the Aldersgate community in London, England, where John Wesley (the father of Methodism) once experienced an intensely spiritual, life-altering encounter with God. As he described it, “I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation; and an assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death.”

Asbury University’s Aldersgate complex comprises six apartment-style buildings, as well as the Spanish and Kenyon Houses. This living environment offers an opportunity for students to participate in a smaller community where they may get to know one another very well, and be known themselves. That happens through shared meals, study sessions, downtime together, targeted opportunities to grow spiritually, and a myriad of other activities.

Living in Aldersgate also provides students with ample opportunities to develop as servant leaders. And intentional service projects each semester, both on campus and in the local community, are another important element of Aldersgate life. We welcome upperclassmen to join our Aldersgate community and believe this unique residential experience will be a transformative feature in their life stories.

In Aldersgate Commons, you will find yourself truly at home in a fellowship that respects who you are as an individual, supports you in your studies, encourages you toward deeper intimacy with our holy and living Lord, and welcomes you to participate in a dynamic, life-enriching community as you learn to live out God’s call upon your life.
