WILMORE, Ky. — Outstanding scholarly work by Asbury University students will be showcased during Asbury’s SEARCH Symposium on April 20 at 7 p.m. in Kinlaw Library.
Open to the public, the SEARCH Symposium will feature research from on-campus Asbury University students in the College of Arts and Sciences. The annual undergraduate research event celebrates students’ work and gives them an opportunity to share their findings with the campus community.
During the event, students will share poster presentations highlighting their research, and those who submitted formal papers for the research competition will compete for a cash prize, certificate and honorary sculpture.
“The SEARCH Symposium is an event celebrating the cultivation of ideas and the use of one’s pen and intellect,” said Dr. Tim Campbell, academic dean at Asbury. “It’s a time where students share about how they think and interpret things, from music history to psychology, from creative writing to math modeling and so on. By focusing on the thoughtful habits of the mind and the formation of lifelong intellectual pursuit, students are better prepared to shape the debate.”
There is a need in our sound-byte world for individuals who can develop depths to ideas. Asbury University is responding with the SEARCH Symposium as one way to prepare students to make a lasting impact.
“The world could certainly benefit from more graduates who strive towards a higher mindset of celebrating the engagement of the head, heart and life,” Campbell said. “Asbury students are well-positioned to answer that call, and the SEARCH Symposium is one of many ways to help them get there.”
The SEARCH Symposium celebrates great ideas in art and research by highlighting the on-going, multi-disciplinary conversation among students and faculty across the liberal arts. This annual signature symposium and competition showcases outstanding student work and invites renowned experts to speak on topics related to research, creativity and scientific discovery.
