Equipping Students

At Asbury University, we believe that high school students have the potential to become effective, Christ-like leaders in the church. We have developed Youth Becoming Leaders to equip and train high school students to serve and lead in the Church—starting now. Youth Becoming Leaders (YBL) trains young men and women through immersion in a Christian community, mentorship, and development of an innovative ministry project.

The Need

The world needs better leaders—individuals who think critically, adapt easily, and initiate change from within. Though we need strong leaders in every professional field, there is an acute shortage of young people actively preparing for vocational ministry. The world desperately needs well-equipped, theologically grounded young leaders within the church to initiate change.

Church and Community Impact

Each YBL student develops a ministry project to strengthen their home community. Students partner with their home church, but drive the project’s development and execution. These ministry projects help students learn to assess the needs of their community, collaborate with individuals and organizations, leverage their natural gifts, and grow their capacity for Christ-centered leadership.

Past ministry projects include:

• A student started his own non-profit organization to recruit other high school students to visit people in local hospitals.
• A student started a ministry for at-risk children and families in her neighborhood.
• A student started a ministry that partnered local churches with refugees.
