Graduate Assistantships

Generally there are at least two graduate assistantships available for students seeking an M.A. in Digital Storytelling, an M.F.A. in Screenwriting, or an M.F.A. in Film/TV Production.

This application is only to be completed by students who have already been accepted to Asbury University.

Eligibility and Description

  • Student must take 18 hours over three consecutive semesters. Exceptions may be considered for students with less than 18 hours remaining to complete their degree. 
  • Student must be a degree-seeking Graduate Student at Asbury University.
  • May be given as full assistantship, ½ assistantship, or ¼ assistantship.
    • When given as Full Assistantship:
      • Requires an average of 15 hours of work per week during each semester covered.
      • Covers 18 hours of tuition over an academic year.
    • When given as ½ Assistantship:
      • Requires an average of 8 hours of work per week during each semester covered.
      • Covers ½ tuition (9 hours) over an academic year. 
    • When given as ¼ Assistantship:
      • Requires an average of 4 hours of work per week during each semester covered.
      • Covers ¼ tuition (4.5 hours) over an academic year.
  • The assistantship is given as a tuition discount, not payroll.
  • The assistantship is generally awarded for one year.
    • Students on probation may lose the assistantship.
  • Categories of Assistantships that can be given:
    • Teaching Assistantship
    • Research Assistantship
    • Combination of Teaching and Research
  • A job description and/or contract will be provided that describes the general duties.
  • Applicants may be interviewed as part of the application process.
  • A strong recommendation from a previous employer or faculty member based on your previous academic achievements and/or media experience.
  • The student must either be a US citizen or documented as immigration status that allows academic employment.
  • The student must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
  • You will upload a current resume including awards, leadership positions, and industry experience during the application process.
  • You must complete the Graduate Assistantship application and submit your resume, and Asbury must receive your reference letter, all by July 1.
