Screenwriting Minor/Emphasis

To make a great film you need three things: the script, the script, and the script.

Alfred Hitchcock

Students in the screenwriting minor or emphasis take a deep dive into how to tell a story. The program surrounds the writers in story making – through the films, TV productions, plays, readings and podcasts being created around them. Opportunities for the writer abound. Our current students write:

  • Countless film and television scripts produced in our TV, directing and producing classes
  • The scripts for the TV Sit-com production class
  • The vast majority of the films showcased in the Highbridge Film Festival
  • Plays for our short play festival, as well as works produced in the regular theater season
  • Scripts published in the Asbury Literary Journal
  • Professional projects produced by groups such as InTouch Ministries and CBN

The Highbridge Film Festival features a screenwriting competition (the Bailey Storytelling Award), that grants the winner $5,000 to go toward producing their script.

The program offers coursework in Film Aesthetics, Feature Film Screenwriting, Tools for Writers, fiction writing, poetry, creative writing, and various seminars in scriptwriting. Past and planned seminars include: Sit-com Writing, Writing TV for Children, Narrative Podcasts, Playwriting, and more.
