Master of Fine Arts
Asbury University launched two new Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degrees in the Fall of 2017. The two M.F.A. degrees are in Screenwriting and Film & Television Production. Both terminal degree programs require 42 credit hours of study. However, if the student does not have an undergraduate degree in media or professional media experience, an additional 1-3 prerequisite classes may be required. 39 hours of the 42 total required credit hours are taken online and some classes may be taken on Asbury’s campus, taking advantage of our state of the art equipment and production facilities.
Students in the M.F.A. program also have a unique opportunity through the Los Angeles Media Workshop. In this two-week summer session, students participate in an intensive exploration of the various facets of television and film production. Students in this workshop-style course will spend time with production professionals and cover areas such as lighting, design, writing, studio back lots and acting. The LA Media Workshop is a distinctive requirement for all Asbury M.F.A. students featuring exposure to many of the facets of the film and television industry.
The graduate learning climate at Asbury promotes individual inquiry, questioning, application, analysis, evaluation, critical and reflective thinking. Students are encouraged to grow individually because of academic excellence and spiritual vitality, and to develop professionally through hands-on experience and mentoring through internships.
