For Maggie Campbell ’20, Asbury University provided opportunities to develop her leadership skills, build meaningful relationships, and gain the confidence to pursue new opportunities in her professional and personal life.
A member of Asbury’s Visionary Class of 2020, Campbell earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication and was actively involved in campus leadership. She served as Student Body President, Vice President of Student Activities, and Freshman and Sophomore Vice President on Class Cabinet through Asbury Student Congress. She was also involved in the Salvation Army Student Fellowship.
Now residing in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Campbell serves as Director of Strategic Initiatives at Building Our Future. Since graduating from Asbury, she has worked in higher education and education initiatives throughout Wisconsin. Beyond her professional career, she has spent the past several years traveling, becoming more involved in her local church, and finding ways to engage with her community.
Campbell credits her Asbury experience with helping her recognize her potential as a leader while building relationships with faculty and staff that continue to influence her life today.
We asked Maggie to reflect on her Asbury experience.
“The meaningful relationships I built with Asbury’s staff and faculty have stayed with me the most. There was an authenticity in those relationships that can be harder to find in other professional or academic spaces. I felt comfortable bringing real-life challenges to them, knowing I would be met with genuine care, guidance, and encouragement to learn and grow.”
“My experience at Asbury gave me opportunities to develop and hone my leadership skills, but more importantly, it gave me the confidence to see myself as a leader. That confidence has carried into my professional career, encouraging me to step into leadership roles early, say yes to opportunities, and not let my age or experience level keep me from taking a seat at the table.”
“Dr. Emily Walsh, Associate Professor of Accounting, and Eric Walsh, Director of Campus Safety, invested deeply in me during my time at Asbury. They were my class advisors, and through serving on Class Cabinet for two years, our relationship grew far beyond their roles in supporting our class. They walked alongside me through some of my highest highs and lowest lows, and even today, they are only a phone call away. While I was at Asbury, they welcomed me into their family, and I’ve loved watching their kids grow up over the years. I always look forward to returning to Wilmore to see them, knowing they will be there to listen, laugh, and share memories with me.”
Campbell’s experience demonstrates how Asbury University equips students to lead with confidence, build lasting relationships, and make meaningful contributions in their communities. Through campus leadership opportunities and personal mentorship from faculty and staff, Campbell developed a foundation that continues to influence her professional journey and personal life.
Her story reflects the lasting impact of an Asbury education, where relationships extend beyond graduation and students are encouraged to discover their calling and make a difference wherever God leads them.
