Aldersgate Commons
Well, hi! And welcome to the Aldersgate Commons homepage! My name is Andrea Haynes, and I'm the Resident Director (RD) of the six houses that make up Aldersgate Commons, along with a women's suite-style hall called Sarah Johnson.
Frank (my hubby) and I started calling Wilmore our home on July 28, 2007. Although we moved here from Georgia, I spent 22 years of my life in Mississippi, and I obtained my B.A. from Mississippi State University in public relations (minor in Spanish). After college, I served as an overseas intern with Campus Crusade for Christ for 11 months in Salerno, Italy, before starting graduate school at the University of Georgia. Frank and I married in August of 2006, and in May 2007, I finished with my M.Ed. in College Student Affairs Administration. We moved here at the end of the summer: I started a new job and Frank was able to resume being a full-time student at the Seminary across the street. We also became involved in Trinity Hill United Methodist Church where Frank serves as the Young Adult and College Minister and I help lead mission and outreach opportunities for our group. We make a good team: Frank's heart is in discipleship and small groups, and I come alive when engaging in evangelism, outreach, and international/homeless missions.
A small-town girl from Poagville, Mississippi (yes, it is an ACTUAL town), I adjusted easily to life in Wilmore and at Asbury. Other members of the Residence Life team embraced Frank and me with open arms, and we immediately felt, for the first time since our marriage, that we were part of a loving, challenging, and uplifting community.
Serving as the RD of Aldersgate, I have the joyous opportunity to get to know upperclassman students through living incarnationally with them. Aldersgate is different than traditional halls; it is unique in that it provides upperclassman residents the opportunity to live with three (or seven) of their friends, to build community on a deeper level, to give of oneself in service, and to intentionally grow in leadership. Sarah Johnson offers 24 women the same opportunity on a corridor hall with suite-style rooms. In addition, two out of six of the Aldersgate houses (Howell and Pike) are living-learning communities. It is our hope that upon leaving Aldersgate or Sarah Johnson, students will be equipped to make a difference for Christ in the World through leadership and service.
If you're ever around the Aldersgate green, please stop in to see us! We would love to have the privilege of getting to know you better and being able to share life with you!
