At Asbury, your pathway as an educator is designed for you to thrive. Our comprehensive online Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program opens doors for you to advance and become a high-quality asset to your school system.
The M.A.T. approach not only prepares you to excel in your role, but also instills confidence in school administrators and parents in regard to your expertise, contributing to the overall quality of education you can provide. We recognize the diverse pathways individuals take to become educators and thrive in their field, and we work hard to support our teachers and open doors for them to progress in their careers or make a career change.
You can complete our M.A.T. program through a traditional academic experience or Option 6, otherwise known as the alternative route. With Option 6, once admitted to Asbury, you can study while teaching within the school system (as long as you have a bachelor’s degree in a non-teaching major). You will then be issued a one-year Temporary Provisional (TP) certificate after completing the appropriate application started by your school’s district, with a yearly renewal until you receive your degree. No matter the route you decide to take, the program will take around six to eight semesters to complete.
Not sure if you have the time to do it? Complete Asbury’s online and in person M.A.T. in Teaching degree in as few as 18 months, or choose a pace that fits your schedule. With 100% online classes held in eight-week blocks, the flexible format accommodates the needs of working professionals seeking career advancement and offers freedom for students of all professional levels and responsibilities.

All faculty in the program have experience in public and private education and administration roles
The Asbury +Grad Program is designed to give Asbury undergraduate students from all areas of study the opportunity to obtain advanced graduate standing.
As an undergraduate student, you can complete up to 9 credit hours of your graduate degree through the +Grad program. This means that upon graduation from Asbury with your undergrad degree, you can complete a master’s degree in as few as 12 additional months, depending on the program.
