Asbury University students Kaylee Van Winkle ’19, Michael Secen ’20, Colt Rasmussen ’19, Aquille Trotman ’19 and Isaac King ’21, along with faculty advisor Dr. George Allen, attended the 20th Annual Sales Competition held at Kennesaw State University. As the longest-running university sales role-play competition in existence, the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) provides students with opportunities to network with sales executives, meet with corporate sponsors and recruiters and compete in the sales competition. Sponsors for the event include major corporations such as Gartner, Aflac, Hewlett Packard, Liberty Mutual, and Comcast.

Students’ dedication — as well coaching with faculty advisor, George Allen — proved fruitful as Secen placed third in his cohort in the quarter finals, putting him among the top 24 out of 142 competitors.

“The NCSC was an amazing experience!” Secen said. “Kaylee and I were able to compete against some of the best salespeople in the nation, allowing us to learn valuable sales skills and build and network relationships with potential employers. I was honored to be able to place in the top 24 and could not have done it without Dr. Allen and Kaylee having my back. It was an amazing week, and I cannot wait to go back next year.”

Asbury’s excellent showing at the NCSC — facing many larger institutions — was built on months of preparation.

“NCSC quarterfinalist Michael Secen and Kaylee Van Winkle, champion from the Toledo event, were remarkable competitors, mastering complex products and performing well,” said Allen. “They showed an amazing work ethic, spending many hours learning the product, developing a sales strategy and practicing in role plays. I’m very proud of this team — both competitors and alternates — who represented Asbury and the Lord very well at this event, and we all look forward to competing again next year.”
