Service Celebrates Past President Kinlaw
WILMORE, Ky. — The life of Dr. Dennis F. Kinlaw ‘43, a past president of Asbury University, was celebrated Saturday in Asbury's Hughes Auditorium. Family, friends, colleagues and former students paid tribute to Kinlaw, honoring his legacy of academic excellence and spiritual vitality. Learn more about Kinlaw’s life and legacy.
“To all of the family, we want to say we are joining our hearts with you,” said Asbury President Sandra C. Gray. “We join our hearts with you in remembrance, in celebration and in thanksgiving for the life of Dr. Dennis Kinlaw.”
The message was preached by Rev. Stan Key — president of the Francis Asbury Society and husband of Katy Kinlaw ’75 Key — and friends, family members and colleagues shared stories of Kinlaw’s profound impact on their lives.
“He embodied Augustine’s phrase, ‘Faith seeking understanding,’” said John Oswalt, who served as president of Asbury from 1983-86. “Dennis Kinlaw showed us that a Biblically-based, Christ-imbued faith had nothing to fear from reason. He was man who passionately loved thinking, a man who passionately loved people, a man who passionately loved Christ. Dennis, the world is a better place because you were here, and it’s a poorer place now you’re gone. Thank you for coming this way.”
