U.S. Congressman Visits Asbury
WILMORE, Ky. — U.S. Congressman Brett Guthrie (from Kentucky’s Second District) got right to the point Monday afternoon: “It’s great to be at Asbury University, it’s great to be with all of you and I’m ready to talk about anything you want to talk about.”
Guthrie held a town hall meeting at Asbury’s state-of-the-art Miller Center for Communication Arts, and after being introduced by Dr. Sandra Gray, Asbury’s president, he couldn’t help but mention his appreciation for the University and the host site.
“It’s wonderful to be at Asbury, I’m a big proponent of what is being done here,” he said. “I have a friend who was looking for a place to study film/television, and I told him I can’t imagine there’s a better place than this.”
In front of dozens of students, faculty, staff, members of the community (including Wilmore Mayor and Asbury Professor Harold Rainwater and other state representatives), Guthrie spoke on subjects from utilizing natural resources and Common Core to Healthcare and military strategies.
“We were honored to host Congressman Guthrie on Asbury's campus,” said Gray. “We appreciate his willingness to engage in genuine dialogue with citizens from our community and students from our University on pressing issues that are currently facing our nation and Commonwealth.”
