Homecoming Weekend Spotlights Music, Sports
WILMORE, Ky. — Homecoming 2013 is underway at Asbury University, with a full schedule of music and sporting events still to come.
The festivities officially kicked off in Chapel Friday morning, as Asbury alumna and parent Amy Finch ’86 Caulder encouraged Asbury students to view prayer as looking at God as He is looking at them. Drawing on the story of Hagar in Genesis 16, she pointed out that the spiritual legacy of this slave from Egypt — including the opportunity to name God “the One who sees me” — extends to modern-day believers.
“Jesus wants you to see Him looking at you,” Caulder said. “This giving and receiving of love is what we were made for, and without it, we are bereft.”
Events continue this evening with sporting events in the Luce Center, a Homecoming Concert with the Concert Band and Chorale in Hughes Auditorium, the premiere of the most recent episode of Asbury’s own sitcom, “Friends Like You,” and Johnson Hall’s Shocktoberfest. On Saturday, the music continues as multiple ensembles perform, athletic teams compete throughout the afternoon and the men’s soccer team takes on Georgetown College for a match that includes the announcement of the Homecoming Court during halftime. All concerts and sporting events are free and open to the public.
