WILMORE, Ky. — The new year has just begun, but for hundreds of students and families, it’s already time to explore Asbury University’s many scholarship opportunities before classes begin in the fall.

More than 60 prospective students and their families are visiting campus for the first of two academic scholarship competitions (the second is scheduled for Feb. 1-2). Through these competitions — open by invitation to academically high-achieving students — prospective students are competing for 100 percent and 75 percent tuition scholarships while experiencing a taste of campus life. For many, it’s a chance to envision what it would be like to grow, academically and spiritually, at Asbury.

“Everyone is so welcoming here,” said Lauren Graf, a senior from Lexington, Ky. who plans to study Biology. “I loved staying in the dorms. When I walked in the dorm, there was a sign on the door that said ‘Welcome, Lauren!’ and there were like 12 girls who came and welcomed me.”

Graf, who plans to attend Asbury in the fall, appreciates Asbury’s emphasis on whole-person growth as well as academics.

“You’ll get a good education and you’ll also develop as a person and as a child of God,” Graf said. “It’s not just about going to class and getting a degree. It’s about how you’re developing; who you want to become; what you want to achieve; how you want to represent God in the world.”

Scholarship Competition is just one of many opportunities for financial aid at Asbury. Ninety-nine percent of Asbury students receive financial aid, with offerings including athletic scholarships, music scholarships, ministry scholarships, need-based aid and much more. Asbury’s room and board fees are also among the lowest in the state (almost 40 percent lower than flagship universities).

“The value of an Asbury education is incredible — we offer an integration of academic excellence and spiritual vitality that you can’t find anywhere else,” said Mallary Wiley, associate director for Undergraduate Admissions. “So many times, I’ve heard how prospective students got their financial aid offers and suddenly realized that an Asbury education really is possible. There’s only one way to find out — apply!”
