WILMORE, KY—On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the music department presents Winter Serenade showcasing the Asbury College Orchestra, Handbell Choir, two chamber ensembles of the Collegium Musicum, the Guitar Ensemble and the Flute Choir. This musical event is in Hughes Auditorium at 7:30 p.m and is free and open to the public.

Among the highlights will be the scintillating, technical tintinnabulations of the Wesley Memorial Handbell Choir under the direction Dr. Mark Schell, professor of organ and church music; a classic excerpt from Handel’s Water Music Suite by the Flute Choir under the direction of Glen Flanigan, assistant professor of instrumental music; and the premiere of the newly-revived Guitar Ensemble with Al Beers, instructor of music.

The performances will be tied together with five short, orchestral pieces by well-known American composer, Leroy Anderson. Many of these familiar pieces are performed by the Boston and Cincinnati Pops Orchestras, including “Syncopated Clock,” “Horse and Buggy”, “Arietta” (for Strings) and “Serenata.” The evening concludes with a rendition of “Buglers’ Holiday,” featuring Asbury College trumpeters Randall Evans ’10, Nathan Forrest ’08, and Erin Flanigan ’10.
