Science, Determinism, and the Image of God Physics suggests that the laws of nature determine the future. Neuroscience appears to show that the brain decides before we are aware of deciding. And classical theology holds that God ordains all that comes to pass. Each poses a distinct challenge to free will, but each is more contested than popular accounts suggest. This lecture discusses the main positions in the debate, examines what the science does and does not establish, and asks what is at stake for creatures made in the image of God.
