Music Dept. Concert: A Celebration of Love
Valentine's Day may get more recognition, but the Asbury University Music Department is helping make sure the celebration of love lasts more than that one day next week.
On Feb. 17, the Asbury Women’s Choir, Men’s Glee Club and Chorale, will present “A Choral Valentine Concert” starting at 7:30 p.m. In Akers Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
“This choral concert celebrates the topic of love through the eyes of children, sailors, pirates and even a crab,” said Dr. Mark Schell, chair of the Asbury University music department.
Some of the selections for the evening include “Where is Love” from Oliver, sung by the Women’s Choir, “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid, performed by the Men’s Glee Club, and a rousing parody of “My Bonny Lass” sung by the Asbury Chorale.
“The concert also includes one of the most beautiful love songs ever heard, a setting of Garcilaso de la Vega's poem, Amor de mi Alma,” said Schell. “This evening of music presented by the Women's Choir, Men's Glee Club and Chorale will make a wonderful addition to any Valentine's Day celebrations!”
The Women’s Choir is under the direction of Dr. Beatrice Holz. Schell conducts the Men’s Glee Club, and the Chorale is led by Dr. Vicki Bell. Additional information about the ensembles involved in the program may be found at http://www.asbury.edu/academics/departments/music/music-ensembles
