Outreach Ministries

Weekend Outreach Teams

On occasion churches within a 300-mile radius of campus request to have a team of Asbury students come and serve as facilitators for church-sponsored, weekend activities, such as youth retreats, church carnivals, and the like. When such requests are made, student teams are recruited, trained, and prepared for this ministry partnership opportunity. Each team is composed of students from a variety of majors and interests who are dedicated to teaching the Word of God and sharing the love of Jesus. Team size varies from 3-8, depending upon the requesting church’s needs.

Summer Ministry Teams (SMT)

The Summer Ministry Team program is a year-long student leadership commitment, beginning in the November before summer break. Two teams of 5-6 members each are selected through an application and interview process every fall semester. One team spends the summer primarily serving by working with youth and children. The second team is a full worship band (drums, guitar, keyboard, sound tech) This team (launching Summer 2015) can serve as the band for summer camps, church youth weeks, youth rallies, etc. After selection, team members begin an intensive leadership training program over spring semester designed to prepare them for 9-weeks of summer ministry to camp, camp meetings, and churches in the United States. Post summer responsibilities include monthly debriefing meetings throughout the following fall semester, as well as recruiting assistance for the next SMT group. Team members who complete their summer commitment receive a scholarship for both semesters of the following academic year equal to 17% of tuition.
