Postdoctoral Fellowship in Chemistry
Overview of Fellowship:
A collaborative venture with Virginia Tech and The Shepherd Chemical Company, the postdoctoral fellowship at Asbury University will focus on the project, Enhancing Appalachian Resilience and Sustainability through Catalytic Methane Decomposition. This project aims to develop and scale turquoise hydrogen production through catalytic methane decomposition (CMD), taking advantage of direct access to natural gas wells and pipeline infrastructure.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a strong background in heterogeneous catalysis, particularly in areas related to hydrogen production, steam methane reforming, water-gas shift, or Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. We especially encourage international candidates who have a desire to serve in an intercultural setting as well as applicants from various ethnic backgrounds.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working on high-temperature and high-pressure systems, have experience in reactor operation and kinetic analysis, and be able to manage data acquisition and control systems. The fellow should also be competent in calculating reaction rates, flow rates, and conversions and capable of troubleshooting both hardware and process issues. This highly self-directed individual should be capable of independent work designing, executing, and analyzing experiments while contributing to the broader goals of the project.
The appointment will be housed in the Department of Biology and Chemistry in the Shaw School of Sciences with collaboration from the Office of Intercultural Affairs. The fellowship will include professional development, undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and other career and spiritual development activities.
Timeline: The postdoctoral fellowship will begin after September 1.
