Job Purpose:

The Vice President for Student Life is directly responsible to the President and serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet. The VP of Student Life has direct oversight for the Student Life Division of the University and provides leadership to both staff and student workers.  The VP is the primary campus official for student discipline. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students. The Students Life Division consists of Residence Life, Campus Ministries, Health Services, Catalyst Center for Applied Learning, Center for Counseling, Campus Safety and Intercultural Programs.  Specific responsibilities for the position are as follows:

Essential Functions:

  • In general, oversee all student activities outside of the academic setting (includes intramurals but not university athletics).
  • Present student concerns and Student Life departmental concerns to the President’s Cabinet.
  • Administer programs within Student Life which promote the mission of Asbury University.
  • Directly coordinate the selection, training, and evaluation of departmental directors in Student Life. The VPSL will be involved in the hiring process of all members of the Student Life team.
  • Facilitate a process in which community standards will be developed and adjudicated.  These standards, consistent with Asbury’s spiritual life and formation, should be based on broad principles which assist students in developing lifestyles for a lifetime.
  • The VPSL is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the budget for the Office of Student Life. Budget management for individual departments within Student Life is the responsibility of the director under the supervision of the VPSL.
  • The VPSL is also responsible for staying informed of federal and state policies relating to student development areas.
  • The VPSL is expected to be visible across campus (student events, chapel, etc.) and model a mature Christian walk with Christ to students, staff, faculty, and university constituents.
  • The VPSL will participate in relevant committees as assigned by the President.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evenings and weekends hours are to be expected.

Travel:

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Doctorate preferred.
  • 10 years relevant experience in related areas.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership, organizational and strategic planning skills and the ability to fully implement and assess plans/projects. Must be able to effectively communicate, collaborate, coordinate, and execute the vision and goals of Asbury University.
  • A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the University’s theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.
