Prof. Emily Walsh – “A True Servant”

May 19, 2014

“And He has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” – I John 4:21

The word “love” is used so freely in our society that it may be hard to contextualize.  But when we truly love someone or something, we adore it, we treasure it and we devote ourselves to it! God gives us the command to “love” others just as we truly love Him. For many, love is demonstrated through actions and we associate how well we are doing with what we are doing for others. Unfortunately, we often look for the big opportunities to serve and overlook the small, seemingly inconvenient ones that are right in front of us.

Have you ever walked by someone and sensed that they had a need but you couldn’t believe God would ask you to do something about it? If somebody were to fall down, like in the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29 – 37), would you be the one that stops to help or one that just walks by in hopes that somebody else will do it?  Part of living to a standard of love requires us to take action for God’s purposes and to do it with the same adoration that we would show Him. Be fearless in serving Him in love today!
