Prof. Emily Walsh – “Following God’s Call”

October 08, 2013

“When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened the storehouses and sold the grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt.  And all of the countries came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe in all the world.” – Genesis 41:56-57

Joseph, son of Jacob, knew from a young age that God was calling him into leadership. He may not have known the road that he would travel to get there, but Joseph took the journey and allowed God to prepare him thru it. When he was ready, God gave Joseph the promotion of a lifetime, second in command of Egypt.  Joseph was then responsible to use the knowledge and tools that he had gained to plan for the future of the world to ensure its survival during a seven year famine.

Following God’s call was no easy task for Joseph. He endured rejection from his brothers, slavery, false accusations, and a request of Pharaoh that could have easily gotten him killed had he been wrong, just to name a few. But Joseph was obedient to God, and God was faithful to Joseph. The road to following one’s call may seem long and windy, but it is the turns in the road that prepare us for His plan in our lives. Are you willing to follow Him wherever He is leading? And, are you willing to be used for His purpose along the way?  It is a journey worth taking!
