“Holy Love Begins with God's Love” – Dr. Jon Kulaga

September 26, 2016

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” -- 1 John 4:10

Occasionally, even believers doubt that God loves them. We reason, "If God truly loves me, why does He let bad things happen to me?"  Or more generally, "Why does He allow things like cancer, earthquakes, and unemployment plague His creation and His people?"

Or perhaps we feel because we have committed some terrible sin that God has written us off forever.  What we fail to realize is the fact that God loves sinners no matter what they have done or how far they have fallen.

The best prescription for unbelief and doubt is to ponder the significance of the cross of Calvary. God did not say simply, "I love you;" He demonstrated His love for us by giving His Son as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. We were sinners on a downward path from God, and rebels who followed the cravings of our sinful nature. That unfathomable love revealed at Calvary is available even to the vilest sinner and envelops every believer in their darkest trial.

"… for God is not willing that any should perish"

"…that whoever believes in him, will have eternal life"

God's love is higher than the highest mountain and deeper than the deepest sea, and it is His gift to you and me.
