Position Summary:

Asbury University’s Shaw School of Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in the Department of Exercise Science with an anticipated start date of fall 2027. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching within a Christ-centered liberal arts environment, maintain an active scholarly agenda, and contribute meaningfully through service to the university, profession, and community. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Academic Rank:

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor is anticipated. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include:

Teach undergraduate courses within the Exercise Science curriculum, with primary teaching responsibilities in biomechanics/kinesiology, strength and conditioning, and related laboratory courses, as well as other courses based on departmental needs and the candidate’s areas of expertise.
Develop and deliver high-quality, evidence-based classroom and laboratory instruction that promotes student learning and application of exercise science principles.
Advise and mentor Exercise Science students regarding academic progress, professional development, graduate school preparation, internships, and career opportunities.
Mentor undergraduate students in research, scholarly projects, internships, field experiences, and other high-impact learning opportunities.
Contribute to the continued development and assessment of the Exercise Science curriculum, including laboratory experiences, program learning outcomes, and preparation for graduate and professional programs.
Maintain an appropriate program of scholarly and/or professional activity consistent with the expectations of a teaching-focused university.
Participate in departmental and university service, including faculty committees, student recruitment and retention initiatives, and other activities supporting the Exercise Science program and university.
Develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations, community partners, clinical and fitness facilities, strength and conditioning programs, and other organizations that enhance student learning and professional opportunities.
Integrate Christian faith and learning within teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and service in a manner consistent with the mission of Asbury University.
Participate actively in the life of the department and university, including collaboration with faculty and staff and support of departmental and institutional initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required

Doctoral degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Human Performance, or a closely related field. ABD candidates may be considered for appointment provided the doctoral degree is completed within a specified time frame.
Capacity for commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring.
Ability to teach undergraduate courses within the Exercise Science curriculum, which may include exercise physiology, kinesiology/biomechanics, strength and conditioning, research methods, and related laboratory courses.
Ability to integrate Christian faith with the academic discipline and support the university’s mission.

Preferred

Academic or professional expertise in exercise physiology and/or strength and conditioning and/or biomechanics, with the ability to teach courses and laboratories in one or more of these areas.
College- or university-level teaching experience in Exercise Science or a related discipline.
Relevant professional certification or credential, with NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification particularly desirable; ACSM or other nationally recognized certifications are also valued.
Experience with laboratory-based instruction and assessment, particularly in biomechanics, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, or human performance.
Evidence of scholarly productivity and/or demonstrated potential to develop and sustain a program of scholarship appropriate to the university’s teaching-focused mission.
Experience mentoring undergraduate students in research, internships, field experiences, strength and conditioning settings, or other high-impact learning experiences.
