Asbury University Names Joe Bruner Vice President of Student Life

Asbury University names Joe Bruner as vice president of student life, effective immediately.

Bruner brings 24 years of student life experience across Baylor University and Asbury University, including more than 18 years serving Asbury’s campus community. He began serving at Asbury in 2008, most recently as assistant vice president of student life.

During his tenure, Bruner has strengthened the residential experience, advanced student support services, and cultivated a campus culture centered on belonging, spiritual formation and personal growth. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to students and a focus on ensuring that Asbury’s transformational experience is lived out in everyday campus life.

“Joe Bruner is a trusted leader who understands the heart of Asbury University and the transformative power of residential Christian education,” said Asbury University President Dr. Kevin Brown. “His experience, steady leadership and genuine care for students make him well prepared to lead this critical area of campus life. His impact is already evident in the strength of our residential community and the way students are supported and challenged to grow.”

As vice president, Bruner will oversee residential life, spiritual formation, intercultural programs, health and counseling services, and student engagement initiatives.

“I am honored to serve Asbury University in this role,” Bruner said. “I care deeply about our students and believe God does some of His most formative work in community when we live, learn and grow together. Each student has been uniquely created by God for a purpose, and my goal is to help create an environment where students are supported, challenged and equipped to step into that calling.”

Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Bruner earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science from Howard Payne University and a master’s degree in educational administration with an emphasis in higher education from Baylor University. Before joining Asbury, he spent seven years working in student development at Baylor University.

Bruner and his wife, Amber, have been married for 22 years and have three children.
