Position Summary

The Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab Manager, serving in the role of Skills Laboratory Instructor as defined by Kentucky Board of Nursing (201 KAR 20:310), is a non-faculty registered nurse who manages the daily operations of the clinical skills and simulation laboratories and assists nursing faculty in implementing student learning activities. The Manager supports the development, practice, and evaluation of psychomotor nursing skills and simulation-based learning in alignment with course objectives, program outcomes, and state regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage day-to-day operations of the skills and simulation laboratories.
  2. In collaboration with faculty, schedule and prepare lab sessions, simulation scenarios, and open practice hours.
  3. Maintain inventory, order supplies/equipment, and ensure functionality of manikins, simulators, and audiovisual systems.
  4. Ensure labs meet safety, confidentiality, and compliance standards.
  5. Assist faculty in delivering skills instruction and simulation-based learning experiences.
  6. Observe and coach students in the practice and remediation of psychomotor and clinical skills.
  7. Evaluate students’ skills performance in accordance with program policies.
  8. Program, operate, and troubleshoot simulation mannikins and related technology.
  9. Implement evidence-based simulation scenarios in collaboration with faculty.
  10. Support faculty during simulation experiences, including set-up, facilitation, and debriefing.
  11. Maintain written policies and procedures for simulation pre-briefing, debriefing, and evaluation based on INACSL best practice standards.
  12. Assist faculty in integrating simulation and skills-based activities into the nursing curriculum.
  13. Participate in faculty orientation and training related to simulation pedagogy and lab operations.
  14. Ensure compliance with Kentucky Board of Nursing regulations regarding simulation and skills instruction.
  15. Monitor and report data on student performance, lab utilization, and simulation outcomes.
  16. Stay current with emerging simulation standards and maintain ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current, unencumbered RN license in Kentucky (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in nursing skills and familiarity with clinical skills instruction.
  • Meets or exceeds qualifications of a clinical instructor as defined by 201 KAR 20:310.

Preferred:

  • Experience with simulation technology, manikin operation, and audiovisual systems.
  • Prior teaching, precepting, or student evaluation experience.
  • Certification or continuing education in simulation education (e.g., CHSE or equivalent or willingness to obtain the CHSE).
