The success of the 2024 choral room renovation project, dedicated to beloved choral director and music department chair, Dr. Donald Donaldson, has become the catalyst for further renovations of McCreless Fine Arts building through the Music Department Capital Improvements fund.
Although the needs within Asubry University’s McCreless Fine Arts Center are substantial, we can make a significant impact on the development of music students by focusing our next renovation efforts on two highly utilized spaces:
Our goal is to raise $250,000 to cover the estimated renovation cost for these two areas, and right now a matching challenge will double the impact of your gift!
Investing in beautiful, functional spaces communicates to students that their calling matters. When they rehearse in a thoughtfully designed room, they feel empowered to pursue excellence in their craft. Common areas in McCreless serve as gathering places where relationships are formed, ideas are shared, and faith is deepened through fellowship.
For your convenience, your gift can be spread over a two-year period. Your total commitment will still be counted toward the challenge.
Asbury’s director of facilities and a local interior design consultant have worked with the music department faculty to identify key priorities that will provide the highest impact possible. Pending the final cost, we believe $250,000 will ensure that these spaces are comparable in form and function to Jameson Recital Hall and the newly renovated Dr. Donald Donaldson Choral Room. These renovations could start as early as December 2025, or after successfully reaching our fundraising goal.
A generous alum and supporter of the music department has provided a $100,000 challenge gift to help cover the cost of renovations to the lobby/common space and the band & orchestra room in McCreless.
Dr. Donald Donaldson served Asbury in the Music Department from 1984-2000 as professor of Music Education and Choral Studies. For several of those years, Dr. Donaldson also served as Chair of the Music Department. He certainly impacted the music program at Asbury, but most notably, his influence made a significant lifelong impression in the lives of the students he directed and mentored both at Asbury and in his earlier teaching years in Kansas.
