Asbury baseball student-athletes continue the tradition of serving Miracle League athletes and families at Shillito Park.

Members of the Asbury University baseball team recently served alongside Miracle League athletes at Shillito Park in Lexington, Kentucky, continuing a meaningful tradition of community engagement and service.

During the event on Saturday, Oct. 17, Asbury baseball student-athletes volunteered as buddies for Miracle League athletes, providing encouragement and assistance throughout the games. Team members also helped in the dugouts and worked to create a positive and memorable experience for participating athletes and their families.

The Miracle League provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of playing baseball in a supportive and inclusive environment. Through the program, volunteers help athletes participate in games, build friendships and celebrate their accomplishments.

One of the things we talk about often is using baseball to serve something bigger than ourselves."

“Our time with Miracle League was a great opportunity for our players to build relationships, encourage others, and use the platform of baseball to serve people and glorify God. Days like these remind us that our impact off the field can be just as important as what we do on it.”

For Asbury Baseball, serving with the Miracle League has been a longstanding tradition, offering players opportunities to invest in the surrounding community while developing relationships beyond the baseball field.

The team’s continued involvement with the Miracle League reflects Asbury University’s commitment to service, faith and community engagement. By giving their time and talents, student athletes have opportunities to demonstrate Christlike compassion while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Through experiences like these, Asbury Baseball continues to emphasize that the lessons learned through athletics extend beyond competition, encouraging student-athletes to lead with purpose, serve others and make a lasting impact both on and off the field.
