Asbury University alumnus Randy Troyer ’13 is serving on the ground in Nepal with Samaritan’s Purse, helping coordinate humanitarian response efforts following devastating flash flooding.
When catastrophic flash flooding swept through Nepal on Aug. 26, Asbury University alumnus Randy Troyer ’13 joined efforts to bring critical assistance to affected communities.
Troyer serves as a Security Manager on the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) with Samaritan’s Purse. The international Christian relief organization deployed disaster response specialists to Nepal following flooding that caused widespread loss of life, displacement and extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
As part of the response, Samaritan’s Purse, through its local partners, have distributed shelter materials, water filters, blankets, hygiene kits and other emergency supplies to thousands of families. Troyer has spent time directly in the disaster zone, where he recently led a Samaritan’s Purse broadcast team documenting the devastation and the work of local partners distributing supplies throughout communities along the river.
Coming alongside people in the midst of tragedy has also given Troyer a firsthand perspective on the human impact of disaster. Beyond damaged homes and infrastructure, he encounters individuals and families navigating profound loss and uncertainty. Serving in these moments has deepened his compassion and reinforced the importance of being present with communities during some of their most difficult days.

For Troyer, the work is not only about coordinating an effective response but also about recognizing the dignity of each person affected and offering tangible help and hope when they need it most.
Troyer graduated from Asbury in 2013 after studying Political Science and Spanish, studying abroad in Spain for a semester and spending a summer in Tunisia with the Initiative Grant which connected Troyer with international work. He later earned a master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Commerce from the University of Kentucky. His education and professional experience have prepared him to work across cultures and navigate challenging environments while supporting humanitarian operations.
The Nepal response is one of multiple disaster responses Troyer has supported through his work with Samaritan’s Purse. In Nepal, his responsibilities place him alongside teams responding to communities experiencing tremendous loss while helping personnel safely carry out their work.
Troyer’s service also reflects Asbury’s longstanding commitment to preparing graduates to engage the world through lives of service, leadership and Christian faith.
