Asbury University Enrollment Operations Director Nathan Vick ’19, M.A. ’21 and Assistant Director Emma Ortiz ’21 represented the University at Slate Summit 2026, where they shared their expertise with higher education professionals from across the country through multiple presentations and collaborative discussions.

Hosted annually by the education technology company Technolutions, the Slate Summit conference brings together over four thousand admissions, enrollment, and technology professionals who use Slate—the leading customer relationship management (CRM) platform for higher education—to exchange ideas, explore best practices, and discover innovative ways to improve the student experience.

Ortiz joined Vick and fellow presenters Amy Shaiman and Matthew Haugen for a panel discussion titled “Don’t Forget to Lock the Doors: Enhancing Security and Data Protection.” The session focused on practical strategies institutions can implement to strengthen data security within their Slate environments.

Drawing from their professional experience, the panel explored the security tools available within Slate, highlighted common mistakes that can compromise sensitive data, and offered actionable recommendations for institutions of every size and stage of implementation.

What I enjoyed most was being able to contribute to an important topic in higher education while presenting to a diverse audience of Slate professionals from across the country."

“We’ve received positive feedback from peers, and it is rewarding to know our panel helped others consider ways to strengthen security in their own Slate instances.”

Asbury's participation reflects the University's commitment to staying at the forefront of enrollment technology while sharing knowledge that benefits higher education institutions nationwide.

In addition to organizing and leading the security panel, Vick presented a second session titled “Event Schedules II: Personalized Schedules Without Custom SQL,” where he highlighted Asbury’s new event schedule system and shared strategies for creating personalized schedules more efficiently within Slate. He also co-moderated the East South Central (Kentucky/Tennessee) Affinity Group, helping facilitate conversations and collaboration among regional Slate professionals.

The conference also provided valuable opportunities for Asbury’s enrollment team to network with peers, exchange ideas, and learn how colleges and universities across the nation continue to innovate through technology.

We were thrilled to be able to share some of the innovative strategies and techniques we’ve developed at Asbury for improving systems and students’ experience."

“The idea-sharing at Slate Summit is one-of-a-kind, and it was great to both contribute and learn from others. We’re already looking forward to the next Summit!”

Alongside Vick and Ortiz, Asbury representatives David Stoltzfus and Michelle Suman ’99 attended the conference, reinforcing the University’s ongoing investment in professional development and continuous improvement. By bringing new ideas and proven best practices back to campus, the team continues to strengthen Asbury’s enrollment operations while enhancing the experience of prospective students and their families.
