Every student’s Asbury experience is unique. For Jonathan Combs, a senior Finance major from Taylorsville, Kentucky, that journey has been shaped by leadership, discipleship, and a growing desire to serve Christ in every area of life.
Throughout his time at Asbury, Combs has served as a captain of the men’s basketball team, participated in the Asbury Worship Collective, led through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), worked as an analyst with the Eyrie Investment Club, and represented students on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). These experiences have helped prepare him to pursue a career grounded in both professional excellence and faithful service.
We asked Jonathan to reflect on his time at Asbury.
“My Asbury experience has equipped me for marketplace ministry. I am learning how to have a heart that pours my relationship with Jesus Christ into anything and everything I find to do as work. I am leaving Asbury with a formed heart and mind with skills, experience, and a Christlike perspective.”
“Since I have been at Asbury, I have learned to see God in a more personable and tangible way. Before coming to Asbury, I did not understand how God could be my Friend and my Savior.”
“One thing I hope everyone gets from their Asbury experience is an understanding of how to cultivate good community. Asbury has the best community, but learning to find, create, and navigate your circle of community in your personal life during the summers and post-graduation is something I hope everyone gets from their Asbury experience.”
As Combs prepares for graduation, his story reflects the transformative impact of an Asbury education. Through leadership, athletics, worship, and meaningful relationships, he has developed the character, faith, and professional foundation to pursue marketplace ministry and faithfully serve wherever God leads next.
