Asbury Athletics Appoints Dr. Lewis Willian as Faculty Athletics Representative

Veteran educator brings more than three decades of leadership experience to strengthen the connection between academics and athletics at Asbury University.

Dr. Lewis Willian will help ensure Asbury student-athletes thrive academically, athletically, and spiritually by serving as the key liaison between the University’s academic and athletic communities.

Asbury Athletics has announced the appointment of Dr. Lewis Willian as TeamAU’s new Faculty Athletics Representative, succeeding Dr. Emily Walsh, who faithfully served in the role for the past five years.

The Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) serves as the vital bridge between academics and athletics, advocating for student-athlete success while helping ensure institutional integrity, academic excellence, NCAA compliance, and the University’s Christ-centered mission. Asbury Athletics extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Emily Walsh for her faithful leadership and dedicated service in this important role over the past five years.

After more than 30 years serving in education as a teacher, principal, Kentucky Department of Education Education Recovery Leader, and central office administrator, Dr. Willian brings a wealth of leadership and experience to his new role as TeamAU’s Faculty Athletics Representative.

Since joining Asbury, Willian has invested in preparing future educational leaders by recruiting for and teaching in the Asbury Graduate School of Education, where he teaches school leadership and research courses. His passion for student development and commitment to academic excellence make him a natural advocate for Asbury’s student-athletes.

The Faculty Athletics Representative helps ensure student-athletes flourish both in the classroom and in competition by strengthening the partnership between academics and athletics and championing their holistic development.

As Faculty Athletics Representative, Willian will serve as a bridge between academics and athletics, supporting the holistic development of student-athletes while helping uphold the University’s commitment to excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in Christ-centered character.

Dr. Willian and his wife, Carol, have been married for 32 years and have two children and three grandchildren.

Asbury University offers Traditional and Online Undergraduate programs in Education; the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree for initial certification; and M.A. programs in English as a Second Language, Learning and Behavior Disorders, Literacy Specialist P-12, and Principal Licensure. Asbury competes as a member of the NCAA Division III, the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
