Asbury University Honors Dr. Douglas Walker and Dr. Victor Hamilton with Faculty Emeritus Status

Asbury recognizes two distinguished educators whose decades of teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and service shaped generations of Asbury students.

By awarding Faculty Emeritus status to Dr. Douglas Walker and Dr. Victor Hamilton, Asbury University celebrates two enduring legacies that continue to influence the institution’s mission and community.

Asbury University awarded Faculty Emeritus status to Dr. Douglas Walker and Dr. Victor Hamilton, recognizing their distinguished careers and lasting contributions to the University through teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and service.

The Asbury University Board of Trustees approved the honors during its Spring 2026 meeting, affirming the significant impact both professors made throughout their decades of service.

The title ‘emeritus’ carries a sense of honor, distinction, and service to an institution.  I cannot think of two individuals more worthy of the title than Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Walker. Their Godly thumbprints continue to mark Asbury University.”

Dr. Douglas Walker at Asbury University

Walker dedicated 28 years to Asbury University as a faculty member in the School of Communication Arts. Throughout his career, he invested deeply in students through classroom instruction, leadership opportunities, mission experiences, and personal mentorship. He served as Associate Dean of the School of Communication, Vice Chair of the Faculty, and advisor to numerous students preparing for careers in media and communication.

Hamilton served as Professor of Old Testament from 1971 to 2007 and established himself as one of the most respected biblical scholars in evangelical higher education. During his tenure, he authored influential books and commentaries, published extensively in academic journals, and spoke regularly in Asbury Chapel, shaping the spiritual and intellectual formation of countless students.

This recognition highlights the lasting influence that dedicated faculty members have on Asbury students, both inside and outside the classroom, through mentorship, discipleship, scholarship, and Christ-centered leadership.
