Asbury is committed to 'equipping men and women... [for] service to the professions, society, the family and Church". Our desire to cultivate a servant's heart is very visible in servant leadership. While academic preparation challenges students to understand their vocation as a means to serve, Campus Ministries strives to help students show acts of mercy as a way of presenting the love of Christ in our broken world. "Glocal" is our approach - serving the community, neighboring cities, our country and the world. Below you will find five organizations who serve campus to provide students with amazing opportunities to serve both domestically and internationally. Below you will find:

Opportunities GLO-cal through five organizations taking amazing student teams to serve both domestically and internationally. From Jesus' words in Luke 22 that He was among us 'as One who serves', we offer all these opportunities so our students can participate in the missio dei - the mission of God in the world.

g-Local Opportunities through Asbury Outreach Coalition (AOC):

Just Older Youth (J.O.Y.): J.O.Y. is an adopt-a-grandparent program where students build positive, lasting relationships with residents of Thompson Hood Veterans Center. Students also have the opportunity to play games and spend time with residents residing in Thompson Hood Veterans Center. Salvation Army Homeless Shelter: Students minister to children (infants through 14 years old) at the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter in Lexington, playing games and building relationships every Wednesday.

Eastern State Mental Hospital: Spend time every Thursday evening with residents of Eastern State through activities, such as games, birthday parties, and other special events, while providing an encouraging environment to promote strong, healthy relationships.

PACT3: PACT3 provides after-school tutoring, basketball, and small groups to at-risk youth at The Providence School. For more information, email

Blue Grass Youth for Christ: Students tutor inner city youth who have fallen off course to graduate. Students also mentor inner city students at Winburn Middle School's after-school club.

Refuge for Women: One Friday per month, female students host a Friday fun night for women who have left the sex industry.

g-LOCAL Ministry Team Opportunities:

Weekend Outreach Teams: On occasion churches within a 300-mile radius of campus request to have a team of Asbury students come and serve as facilitators for church-sponsored, weekend activities, such as youth retreats, church carnivals, and the like. When such requests are made, student teams are recruited, trained, and prepared for this ministry partnership opportunity. Each team is composed of students from a variety of majors and interests who are dedicated to teaching the Word of God and sharing the love of Jesus. Team size varies from 3-8, depending upon the requesting church's needs.

Summer Ministry Teams (SMT): The Summer Ministry Team program is a year-long student leadership commitment, beginning in the November before summer break. Two teams of 5-6 members each are selected through an application and interview process every fall semester. After selection, team members begin an intensive leadership training program over spring semester designed to prepare them for 9-weeks of summer ministry to camp, camp meetings, and churches in the eastern half of the United States. Post summer responsibilities include monthly debriefing meetings throughout the following fall semester, as well as recruiting assistance for the next SMT group. Team members who complete their summer commitment receive a scholarship for both semesters of the following academic year equal to 17% of tuition.
