Campus Update

January 6, 2021

Stay Healthy, Return Healthy

Welcome back, Students! We are looking forward to seeing you on campus again!

As you prepare to return, continue to take note of any possible COVID-19 symptoms you may be having. If you are symptomatic, get tested prior to returning. Do not come back to campus if you are sick. In addition, if you have been in group gatherings in the last 10 days, we strongly encourage you to get tested.

We will do a FACTSSS check and temp screening when you first arrive on campus; however, there is not a staggered move-in like the fall. If you are sick, we may not allow you to move back into your residence hall room.

If you have been in close contact with someone who tested positive, complete your quarantine BEFORE returning to campus. If you are currently in isolation or quarantine, contact Health Services NOW at health.services@asbury.edu. In addition, if you tested positive anytime over Christmas break, send those test results to Health Services to be placed in your file. This will save you from another quarantine if you should be exposed within 90 days of your positive test.

Returning Information

  • Returning students may start moving in on Saturday, January 9, at 1 p.m. You do not need to sign up for a specific move-in time. You may have two people help you move in, but everyone must do the FACTSSS and symptom check, wear a face mask, and socially distance as much as possible.
  • FACTSSS screening will take place in your residence hall lobby or Aldersgate Lounge for Aldersgate residents. Screenings will be Saturday 1 – 10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Commuters will have their FACTSSS check and temp screening at the STUCE on the first Monday and Tuesday of classes.

Updates/Reminders for COVID-19 Precautions

If you want to be on campus for class or residence life, you MUST agree to follow the COVID-19 precautions and protocols.

  • Check your FACTSSS daily. If you are symptomatic, get tested immediately and quarantine until the results are back. Notify Health Services (health.services@asbury.edu) of any symptoms, exposure and/or test results. This will allow you to be officially approved for remote instruction.
  • Spring 2021 quarantine time for exposure will decrease to 10 days in accordance with the new CDC guidelines. If you remain asymptomatic AND report your symptoms to Health Services daily, Health Services may release you from quarantine after 10 days without a test. If you develop any symptoms during those 10 days, testing will be required.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19, you must agree to share with Health Services (or other University contact tracers) information regarding any student, faculty or staff member you were in close contact with. Close contact is considered less than 6 feet distance for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting 2 days before illness onset (or for asymptomatic persons, 2 days prior to test collection), without regard to wearing a mask. By returning to campus, you agree to comply with this policy.
  • Continue to be in “mask mode,” which means wearing at least a 2-ply face mask outside of your residence hall room unless you are at least 6 feet from another individual.

If you haven’t done so already, PLEASE get your flu shot. As many of you remember, we had an outbreak of the flu in February 2020. Because COVID symptoms and flu symptoms are quite similar, Health Services will easily become overloaded with an onslaught of flu cases. Get your shot!
