BIO Dr. Sherry Powers is Asbury University’s Provost and Chief Academic Officer. She came to Asbury with more than 25 years of experience in higher education, previously serving at Eastern Kentucky University as Dean of the College of Education and Applied Human Sciences. Powers, an Asbury alumna, served Asbury as Dean of Education. She has also served as a professor, department chair, Director of the School of Teacher Education, and associate dean in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Western Kentucky University. Before entering higher education, she had a career in social work before teaching elementary school and working as a reading specialist. Her leadership and rich educational experience further the mission of Asbury through her work with faculty, staff, and students. Powers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Asbury University, elementary teacher certification from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Education and reading specialization from the University of Kentucky, and a Doctor of Education in instruction, administration, and reading specialization from UK. She is an alumna of the Harvard Performance Assessment in Higher Education Institute and the Harvard Management Development Program. She completed the Academy for Leadership Development sponsored by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Powers has served on the Board of Trustees and as President of the Alumni Association at Asbury University. In addition to her long and successful career in higher education, she brings an enduring love for Asbury, a deep understanding and appreciation for its mission, and a vision for students. Dr. Powers and her husband, Dr. Mike Powers, live in Lexington, Ky. Her son, Dr. Jonathan Powers, is a professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. Jonathan and his wife, Faith, live in Wilmore with their daughters Audrey and Elizabeth. Her daughter, Dr. Leah Corpus, is currently serving as a postdoctoral associate at the University of Florida. Leah and her husband, Eric, live in Gainesville, Florida, with their children Noah, Micah, and Ezra.
