Randy Richardson joined the faculty full time in 1999 after six years as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Ancient & Modern Languages. In addition to teaching all levels of Latin and ancient Greek as well as courses in classical humanities, he has served as department chair (2018-2024). He also established and is the faculty advisor of the local chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the national collegiate honor society in Classics. In 2004, he served on the Latin Praxis Exam National Committee, which was tasked with reviewing and revising the national exam that measures the pedagogical competence and knowledge required for teacher certification in Latin. Richardson’s recent scholarship has focused on hagiography of late antiquity in Merovingian Gaul. Prior to coming to Asbury University, he was an Instructor of English and ESL at Salem-Teikyo University in Salem, West Virginia (1987-1991), and was on the staff at Duff Street United Methodist Church in Clarksburg, West Virginia (1991-93).
