Before joining the faculty at Asbury University, Brooks taught at Lexington Traditional Magnet School and founded and directed the Bluegrass Ensemble at Union Commonwealth University. His collegiate conducting experience also includes the Midway University Chorale. Beyond his university work, he serves as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Madison Singers and as Assistant Conductor and Children’s Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Kentucky. He formerly served as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Licking Valley Singers. As a guest conductor, Brooks recently led the Southern Kentucky Music Association All-Festival Honor Choir. His creative work includes compositions and arrangements for Asbury University’s choral ensembles and a commissioned anthem commemorating First Presbyterian Church’s 200th anniversary.

Brooks is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and the Kentucky Music Educators Association. His professional and research interests include choral conducting, rehearsal pedagogy, collegiate choral-program development, church music, vocal pedagogy, and Appalachian and bluegrass musical traditions. He received the Robert Whitt Award in Choral Music Excellence from the Eastern Kentucky University School of Music in 2019. Brooks is also active as a composer and arranger, creating music for Asbury University’s choral ensembles and completing a commissioned anthem for the 200th anniversary of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Kentucky.
