Great Commission Congress begins January 22

WILMORE, KY—The Great Commission Congress at Asbury College is January 22-26. The theme for this week is “Places Everyone!” based on Judges 7:21a (Amplified Bible): “They stood every man in his place round about the camp, and all the [Midianite] army ran…”

This year’s speaker is Dr. Russ White, a WGM missionary and chief of surgery and endoscopy at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya. When he’s not in Kenya, he serves as a clinical associate professor of surgery at Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, R.I.

White was born in Congo, Africa, to missionary parents and grew up in Michigan. He attended Philadelphia College of Bible (Pennsylvania) where he majored in Bible and piano. He received a B.S. in biology at Roberts Wesleyan College (New York) and earned his M.D. at the University of Michigan Medical School. He did his surgical residency at Brown University (Rhode Island) and an MPH (public health) at Harvard University School of Public Health (Massachusetts).

Each year a special offering is taken to support a specific work that advances the Great Commission. This year the focus is the indigent fund at Tenwek Hospital. This fund is used to assist patients who are unable to pay the $13 per day stay. A missions exposition will be available in the cafeteria during meal times, Wednesday through Friday, allowing students to work with 15 missions groups. This annual event allows Asbury College students to pursue missions—many for the first time.

In addition to three chapel services, held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m., there will be four evening services, Monday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Pre-service prayer meetings are 6-6:20 p.m. in Reasoner 214.
