Professor's Book Makes Year's Best List
The finalists were recently announced in the 2013 Christian Retailing's Best awards competition sponsored by “Christian Retailing” magazine. “The Christian World of The Hobbit” written by Asbury English Professor Devin Brown and published by Abingdon Press was named one of the year's best in the Church and Culture category.
Those who selected the finalists were asked to judge the nominations on their impact, including their ability to speak to people's hearts and evoke emotion, to open people's minds to new ways of thinking, and to encourage and affirm Christ-like living. Introduced in 2001, the awards sponsored by Christian Retailing have been increasingly acknowledged as an important way of recognizing some of the most significant new life-changing products in the Christian retail industry.
Winners of the Christian Retailing's Best awards will be presented at the International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis in June.
In addition to “The Christian World of the Hobbit,” Brown has written extensively about the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. An upcoming book titled “A Life Observed: A Spiritual Biography of C.S. Lewis” is due out in August, shortly before the 50th anniversary of Lewis’ death.
