American Math Competition
Every spring, the Math Department hosts the Mathematics Association of America (MAA) American Mathematics Competition (AMC) in the Kinlaw Library. This event is for students in grades 8-12. AMC is a starting point on the path towards United States of America Mathematics Olympiad (USAMO) and USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO).Check back for the link to open registration.
Challenge Course
The Asbury University Challenge Course is an experientially-based outdoor program focused on developing greater leadership, communication, trust, and initiative in teams. Since its inception in 1992, the program has served over 45,000 participants of all ages and ability levels. We’ve had guests from middle school soccer players to corporate executives. The Course is located in a beautiful hardwood forest on a 300-acre farm above the Kentucky River Palisades, and is the largest and most versatile ropes course in central Kentucky.
Homeschool Science Lab
Each year, Asbury faculty teach Biology and Chemistry labs for local high school level students being taught in a homeschool environment. These labs take place every other Friday and are designed to provide practical lab experience for students who have completed or are currently studying chemistry and/or biology. Each lab has been designed as an independent learning unit and presents techniques and concepts that will be universal to any natural science curriculum.
ImpactU Academic Summer Camps
Two sessions of one-week academic camps each June offer in-depth instruction to high school students in a variety of content areas taught by Asbury faculty. Campers stay in campus residence halls, eat in the campus dining hall and interact with faculty and current Asbury student employees while gaining hands-on experience in the context of a Christian community. Content areas can vary from year to year, but often include Adventure Leadership, Forensic Science, Environmental Science and Equine.
Kids College
On the first Saturday of March, the Hamann-Ray Science Center opens wide its doors to the community for our annual event, Kids College, hosted by the Sigma Zeta Honor Society. Children fill the halls for two high-energy sessions jam-packed with hands-on science.Check back for the link to open registration.
Math Night
Math and fun go hand-in-hand at Asbury University’s annual Math Night, an event designed to introduce elementary, middle and high school students to new math concepts in an exciting and challenging environment. The event is hosted by Math Education majors in the University's Hamann-Ray Science Center every spring.Check back for the link to open registration.
Outdoor Recreation
If you are interested in taking your youth group Rock Climbing, or going on a week-long backpacking trip with a group of friends, Asbury University Adventure Programs offers a wide variety of professionally-led Outdoor Recreation programs to the public, including Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Caving, Canoeing, Backpacking, Orienteering, and Mini-adventures.
Physical Education Classes
Asbury University occasionally offers physical education classes to primary and middle school students of homeschool families.
Service Mounts Program
Asbury University's Equine Program trains horses for work with service units, making it the only university in America with a police horse training program conducted by the students. This program provides a direct experience for students through focused, consistent training of one horse who ultimately will serve a unit in active duty. Horses from this program can be found across the nation and in Canada.
Sigma Zeta Honor Society
Asbury University's Alpha Theta chapter of the National Sigma Zeta Honor Society hosts or sponsors many Science, Health and Math related events throughout the school year. The chapter is happy to have help from anyone interested in volunteering for an event that they host.
Summer Adventure Camps
Run by Asbury University's Center for Adventure Leadership, these summer outdoor/experiential education camps are designed to teach outdoor skills to beginning and intermediate students. A day camp for middle school students uses the indoor climbing wall in our Luce Physical Activities Center to teach beginning rock climbing techniques, while overnight camps for high school students teach rock climbing, camping, canoeing, navigation, and decision-making skills through outdoor experiences.
Summer Horse Camp
Children interested in horses, riding, and horse care will be delighted with the opportunity to attend summer horse camp at Asbury University's Equine Center. Under skilled supervision from our responsibly trained equine students, children will learn, be challenged, advance their own skills, and have fun at horse camp.
Tumbling Team
The Asbury University Tumbling Team is an outreach ministry team of the Science & Health Department. This unique ministry uses a combination of gymnastics, acrobatic stunts, and mini-trampoline work in one-hour exhibitions to fulfill its mission of witnessing for Christ through gymnastics. The team is available to perform for churches, schools, and other community organizations during their spring break each year. The team ends its spring tour season with “Jym Jamboree” in early April at the Luce Center.
