Faculty Spotlight: Professor Barry Blair Inspires Students to Discover Their Passion and Calling

Media Communication professor and award-winning musician shares his passion for mentoring students, music and Asbury University’s Christ-centered community.

Meet Professor Barry Blair, a Media Communication professor at Asbury University!

Originally from Columbia, Kentucky, Prof. Blair has served at Asbury for 15 years, bringing extensive experience in the Christian music industry to the classroom.

Before joining Asbury, Prof. Blair worked as a guitarist, songwriter and record producer. He was a founding member of the Christian band Audio Adrenaline and has earned three Dove Awards, one Grammy nomination and four Dove Award nominations.

Today, Prof. Blair uses his professional experience and passion for music to inspire students as they discover their gifts and pursue their calling.

What drew you to work at Asbury?

“I went to a small Christian college, and it was a very special time in my life, so I wanted to teach in a similar setting, where relationships are important and where Christian faith plays a central role.”

What do you love most about working with students?

“I love it when a student finds what they are really passionate about. Seeing students pursue their dreams and find their calling is the most fulfilling part of being a professor.”

What’s something you’re passionate about outside of work?

“I am passionate about music, and especially guitar. I’ve been playing for about 45 years, and I enjoy playing on my church’s worship team.”
