Asbury University students and Asbury Theological Seminary graduate assistants are putting faith into action through service with Church Under the Bridge and Kentucky Food Ministry, serving people experiencing homelessness and others in need.
This year, members of the Asbury community continue to partner with Church Under the Bridge and Kentucky Food Ministry through the Asbury Outreach Coalition (AOC), helping lead a Sunday worship service and provide meals for those attending.

“In both cases, students get to distribute food to hungry people and, as they do, literally be the hands and feet of Jesus. I am thankful for this embodied opportunity for our students to live out the gospel and to love people with the love of God. One student commented, ‘There is nothing like handing someone who is hungry something to eat. It’s humbling and such a blessing.’”
The service opportunity brings together students, faculty and staff to meet practical needs while building relationships with members of the Lexington community. Asbury volunteers help lead worship and share a message, prepare meals for attendees to take with them, and serve a hot meal as part of the gathering.
Church Under the Bridge seeks to create a welcoming Christian community for people experiencing homelessness and others in need, gathering for worship, fellowship and meals in downtown Lexington. The partnership provides the Asbury community with an opportunity to support the ministry’s ongoing work while living out the University’s commitment to service.
The Asbury Outreach Coalition helps connect members of the University community with opportunities to serve locally and beyond. Through partnerships with ministries and nonprofit organizations, AOC encourages students to see service not simply as a one-time activity, but as part of a life shaped by Christian faith and love of neighbor.
For those who serve with Church Under the Bridge, the experience also offers an opportunity to step outside the boundaries of campus and engage directly with needs in the surrounding community.
