Two graduates of Asbury University’s School of Education recently earned Teacher of the Year honors in their schools, reflecting the University’s commitment to preparing educators who lead with excellence, compassion, and faith.

Patrick Simpson ’22, ’24 received the honor at Providence School in Jessamine County Schools, where he serves high school students in special education with a focus on behavioral support. “Asbury helped me realize that my strengths were better suited for helping at-risk populations and gave me the best training I could ask for on IEP writing.”

Kathryn Vest ’26 was selected as Teacher of the Year at Robert B. Turner Elementary School in Anderson County Schools shortly after completing Asbury’s Master of Arts in Teaching program in May 2026. Through Asbury’s Option 6 graduate program, Vest pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher while simultaneously launching her career teaching third-grade reading.

These recognitions reflect Asbury's mission to prepare educators who combine professional excellence with Christ-centered purpose in classrooms and communities.

Vest said Asbury equipped her both academically and spiritually throughout her transition into education.

Asbury's graduate program aligned so well with what a new teacher truly needs. Not only did the coursework help me become well prepared in the K–5 core subjects, but it also emphasized effective instructional methods and helped me discover and strengthen my 'why' as an educator."
