Jessica Liu ’26 will pursue a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago after a formative Asbury experience shaped by academic challenge and Christ-centered community.
Asbury Biology graduate Jessica Liu ’26 will carry the lessons, relationships, and spiritual formation of Asbury University into her next chapter as she prepares to pursue a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago.
During her four years at Asbury, Liu grew as a student, scientist, and follower of Christ through mentoring relationships, campus spiritual life, faculty conversations, and friendships that continually pointed her back to God.

Liu credits Asbury’s Christ-centered community with helping her navigate difficult seasons and prepare for the calling God has placed before her. She said those challenges strengthened her faith and clarified her desire to serve future students through science education.
“I am grateful that God kept me at Asbury through difficult seasons, using them to better prepare me for His kingdom and the calling He has placed before me,” Liu said.
This year, 20 graduating students and recent alumni from Asbury University’s Shaw School of Sciences received admission into medical school, dental school, graduate school, physical therapy programs, and more.
After completing her doctorate, Liu hopes to teach and invest in future generations of science students academically, personally, and spiritually.
Liu said she feels especially grateful for the love and intentionality of Asbury faculty and staff.
“Faculty members have a remarkable ability to recognize potential in their students and to challenge them to reach their fullest academic capacity,” Liu said. “I was supported and connected with resources that ultimately helped shape me into who I am today.”
